Macaroni Cheese

A pasta dish that meets the everyday criteria.

Macaroni Cheese

Method

  • Cook pasta in plenty of boiling water for 10 minutes (or according to packet instructions) until just tender to the bite.  Drain well.
  • At the same time, combine the flour, mustard and tabasco sauce in a saucepan to form a smooth paste.  Blend in milk and place over a medium heat.  Cook for 5-10 minutes, whisking continuously until a smooth sauce forms.
  • Add cooked vegetables and grated cheese and stir until melted.
  • Stir in cooked pasta then season with salt.

  • 400g wholemeal macaroni (raw, dry)
  • 100g wholemeal flour
  • 2 tsp mustard powder
  • 2 tsp tabasco sauce (optional)
  • 1L trim milk
  • 500g frozen mixed vegetables eg. peas,corn (cooked)
  • 200g cheddar cheese, grated
