Dhal

A handy vegetarian recipe that also freezes well.

Dhal

Method

  1. In a saucepan place split peas and water.  Simmer gently until split peas soften and begin to break apart.
  2. Add chopped tomatoes and remove from the heat.
  3. Meanwhile heat the oil in a frying pan with the onion.  Cook slowly until onion has softened and is translucent.
  4. Add garlic and cook slowly for a further 2 minutes.
  5. Add onion and garlic to cooked split peas along with the curry powder and return to a slow simmer.  Cook for approximately 10 minutes then remove from heat.

  • 2L Water
  • 250g Smart Choice Whole Peeled Tomatoes, chopped*
  • 35ml Vegetable oil
  • 155g Bidvest Fresh Onion, finely chopped*
  • 25g Garlic, crushed
  • 20g Mild curry powder
